Caffeine and sport
The link below holds a great article detailing the effects of coffee for the more athletic of you out there; it poses a balanced argument for the use of coffee detailing a common sense trial and error approach to finding the exact level of caffeine required for you to perform at your peak. What works for some may not for others.
I couldn’t say the exact caffeine I consume but the effects on me are clear from a physiological perspective. I consume 3 coffees at routine times during the day to function my best stopping at 2pm to allow the effects to calm down towards the evening. When playing Tennis I do notice a performance boost especially with my concentration levels, this often turns poor tennis mediocre.
Caffeine in products
- Gu, Vanilla, 10 oz: – 20mg
- Diet Coke, 12 oz: – 30mg
- Espresso, 1 oz: shot – 40mg (estimated)
- Pepsi 12 oz: can – 45mg
- Red Bull 8 oz can – 80mg
- Starbucks 16 oz – 200mg
Do you regulate your caffeine intake or have an understanding of the amount required to perform at your best psychologically or physically?

20% of UK’s high street stores close in 2012 – Tesco part of the problem?
Sherborne, Dorset: local retailers are petitioning against the opening of a 28,000 sq. ft. Tesco.
Allegedly, folk marvel at how new Tescos pop-up — and suddenly the town acquires a new Police station.
Sherborne, Dorset: protestors petition the council not to give planning permission for Tesco to open a 28,000 square foot store
Meanwhile to coincide with store openings, the old High street gets dug up to lay new gas pipes and water mains. 9,000 people have signed a petition asking for the planned Tesco store not to open, so what do Tesco put there popularity (or lack of it) down to? Is it the threat of closure of small business or the fact that their stores are jampacked full of overseas suppliers and corporations’ brands?
If plans go ahead, one of the two hotels in Sherborne will have to close. Campaigners say that even Tesco’s Head of Corporate Affairs appeared not to shop there — she was seen to have a Waitrose bag on her back seat.
Been there, done that – get the IYC shirt
The 2012 International Year of Co-operatives has so far been a remarkable start to what we hope will become many decades of very successful co-operation.
When we’re all facing more difficult moments, when the message and the goals become hard to see, sometimes a visible reminder of what we’re all striving to achieve can crystallise thoughts and give us that renewed energy we need to achieve our goals.
And what better way to remind yourself and others about what we’re all here to do? For a VERY limited time, you can grab one of the last few IYC 2012 polo shirts at a massive discount – ethically and co-operatively produced using only 100% Fairtrade cotton. Co-operatives United with Revolver: an amazing week for us, an incredible event for co-operatives
Co-operatives United: Manchester 29th Oct – 2nd November. Revolver runs three cafes as part of the UN International Year of Co-operatives gathering at Manchester Central.
More than 14,000 people from over 83 countries assemble for Co-operatives United. A marketplace for multi-sector co-operation across the globe, Revolver served thousands of customers who sampled our Revolver World branded Fairtrade and co-operatively produced coffees.
With the help of our friends at Jura (the world leader in coffee equipment) and Arla’s Cravendale Milk, we served customers with a Quadruple Fairtrade IYC Special Blend, Fairtrade Colombia & Fairtrade Africa arabica coffees – also on sale in branches of both Midcounties and Midland Co-operatives.
Revolver now hope to be listed in The Co-operative Group stores.
Co-operative Group created a unique experience for members visiting The Co-operative Living zone. This was a great opportunity during half term for families to gather, share, have fun and enjoy an event-packed schedule — including the Idea Zone, run by Revolver director Richard Bickle.Pictured L-R: Candice Bowers; Hannah Birch and Masteroast’s barista extraordinaire Jonny England.
So what is the International Year of Co-operatives?
The UN put together this spangly little video explaining the International Year of Co-operatives and what the IYC means for everyone. As we approach Co-operatives United – where we’re exhibiting! – find out a little more about the amazing force for good which everybody can get involved with.
Volunteering opportunities are now available with Revolver during Co-operatives United – Revolver’s Pioneer Cafe is set to be a focal point in an amazing central exhibition. We can’t reveal all just yet, but if this sounds interesting get in touch…
