Guatemala is a mild coffee with full sweetness. It has delicate floral aromas and savoury flavours of dates and nutmeg. Since 1969 FEDECOCAGUA has worked to improve the lives of small-scale farmers, 90% of farmers’ income comes from coffee. Within the FEDECOCAGUA region just 2% of production is certified organic, so this shade-grown coffee represents the best of the best.
Guatemala Organic: Since 1969 FEDECOCAGUA has worked to improve the lives of small – scale farmers. With, 19, 354 members belonging to 37 affiliated cooperatives. FEDECOCAGUA provides credit, technical support, transport, warehousing and the purchase, processing and export of members’ coffee beans. An organic conversion programme has been established and this coffee is the first fruits of its success. This coffee is grown in Guatemala’s Huehuetenango, Coban, Verapaces, Retalhuleu, San Marcos & Zacapa regions. The UN report that children receive an average 1 – 2 years of education. Despite output increasing, Guatemala’s income from coffee has diminished by a third since the 90’s. Difficult economic conditions and poor infrastructure, health, and education are being reserved by FEDECOCAGUA.
