This Colombian coffee is Fairtrade certified and organically grown. It features a full-bodied and smooth flavour, with subtle hints of chocolate, nut, and spice. Its consistency is ground to a medium-strength grind.
The coffee is from the Red Eco Sierra Cooperative in the region of Santa Marta in Northern Colombia near the Caribbean coast. Cooperativa Red Ecosierra was established in 2001 and is made up of 18 individual groups, 600 families across 900 farms. The annual harvest is between November and February and the cooperative organically grows high quality Typica, Castillo and Colombian varieties of Arabica plants, at an altitude of 900-1300 meters.
Red Eco Sierra was established in order to consolidate production and move towards a more sustainable production model and marketing have all been consolidated into the cooperative. The community has begun conversion plans to include the construction of basic sanitation, processing, pulping, building composters, redefining protection of flora and fauna that gives rise to biodiversity in the fragile Sierra Nevada Valley.
Building Lasting, Sustainable Partnerships with Farmers
We are dedicated to creating strong, sustainable relationships with cooperative farmers. By paying the Fairtrade Premium, we ensure that farmers receive fair compensation, empowering them to reinvest in their farms and communities. This not only promotes the creation of sustainable products but also generates long-term benefits for both people and the planet.
As a multi-stakeholder cooperative, we invite farmers to become members, giving them an active voice in our operations. This collaborative approach strengthens our partnership and fosters a more equitable and thriving community.
