Revolver World Store - no VAT increase AND save 5% on all January purchases!

January 6th, 2010 by Christopher Woods

We're heading into 2010 with a bang - and a tasty saving for our customers. Although the VAT rate was reverted to 17.5% on January the 1st, we've held back the price increase on our products - our Organic Fairtrade 100% cotton T-shirts are still £6.99, and our hoodies (also 100% Organic Fairtrade cotton) are still just £19.99.

We also identified a problem with our store's registration process whereby a minority of customers may have been prevented from finishing the registration process for the store. To make up for this, we're offering a time-limited discount: 5% off on all purchases from the Revolver World store until midnight on February the 1st! » Read more: Revolver World Store - no VAT increase AND save 5% on all January purchases!

Why pay more for coffee or bananas?

November 9th, 2009 by Sameera
Article author: Ebude Mbong, Revolver World, 4th of November 2009

In the UK we are currently paying twice as much as we could on imported goods such as coffee and bananas, and the underlying reason may be surprising to some.

Research on immigration and prices in the UK indicates that immigration reduces the average price growth of non-traded goods and services. Moreover, for goods and services produced with low wage, labour intensive technologies, immigration decreases the growth rate of prices. In particular, the paper shows that an increase in the immigrants-natives ratio of one percentage point would lead to a 0.2% decrease in prices of such services. This reflects the occupational distribution of recent immigrants, whereby they concentrate in low-wage occupations in labour intensive sectors. » Read more: Why pay more for coffee or bananas?

Midcounties Co-operative Links with Revolver...

November 9th, 2009 by Sameera

The Midcounties Co-operative is launching Fairtrade T-shirts in a box to give a better deal to disadvantaged people in India after the idea came from its own workforce. The ethical community retailer is branching into clothing for the first time after several colleagues suggested it in an internal competition for innovative ideas.

The Co-operative is already the leading supermarket supplier of Fairtrade goods. It will sell the T-shirts in 20 food stores to begin with after linking up with supplier Revolver World, a not for profit company.

The T-shirts are made from organic cotton from farmers’ co-operatives in Southern India and all those involved in their production are guaranteed a fair price. The carton packaging has a distinctive design which tells the story behind the product. » Read more: Midcounties Co-operative Links with Revolver...
