Kenya Children Centres rescues destitute orphan girls and cares for them in a safe and loving environment. The children live in small family units, each with a house mother who looks after them as she would care for her own children. They provide each child with food, shelter, education, health care and a home that is free from conflict, abuse and exploitation. They have been caring for children since 1999.
The NGO has been key on helping young girls reaching their potential, and supports them at the most important times of their lives as they grow. It is very humbling to be able to be involved with a charity who help those who have been excluded most in society. The down-turn of the economy has had impacts world-wide, but some of the worst impacts have been on those already on the margins of the chronic poverty- line. As their website documents:
In 2007 it was possible for someone earning 100 shillings a day (70p) to buy enough maize and beans for a meal. Today, these basic food items have quadrupled in price and millions have no work. The 20 million Kenyans that live on less than £1 per day no longer know where their next meal will come from.
With such harsh realities it is becomes even more important not to destroy all the developmental gains of the last fifty years. LUCIA needs help, not just for today's children but the future.
Raising money does not have to be boring! Their latest newsletter shows the wide range of possibilities for raising money for this worthy cause. Here at Revolver World we raise money to support the NGO in as many ways as possible, but their newsletter shows people doing triathlon, donating fees, donations instead of presents. Another possibility is to sponsor a child, which is a very practical way to help children in Kenya.
We highly suggest that you look at their website at www.kenyachildrencentres.com!
